Held in recognition of Earth Day 2026 and its theme, “Our Power, Our Planet,” the webinar will examine how a just transition to clean energy can protect both the environment and public health, particularly for vulnerable communities. The featured
speaker will be Elizabeth Cerceo, MD, DCM, FACP, FHM, FEFIM, Professor of Medicine and Executive Director of Climate Health at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, who will share her expertise at the intersection of climate science and public
health.
The presentation will explore how fossil-fuel-driven air pollution harms cardiovascular and respiratory health, impacts children and pregnancy outcomes, and disproportionately affects poor and marginalized populations. The webinar will also address emerging environmental concerns such as extreme heat and microplastics, highlighting how environmental degradation increasingly affects human health. Participants will also learn about practical pathways toward cleaner energy systems that
safeguard “our common home” while advancing the Church’s preferential option for the poor.
